HIV status can also be a factor in whether guys use other strategies like condoms, PrEP, or undetectable viral load. Sero-sorting seems simple in concept, but in practice it’s not so clear cut.
Some HIV-negative guys think it’s a good idea to only have sex with other HIV-negative guys, but this is generally not an effective approach to preventing HIV transmission. There are some guys who believe they are HIV-negative, and don’t know that they have undiagnosed HIV.
