Syphilis

Pride had us all hot and horny. If you were having the sex you want, now is a great time to test for syphilis.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection you can get through skin-to-skin contact and condomless anal, oral, and vaginal/front hole sex. You could acquire syphilis and not know it. Some people develop visible symptoms, but others don’t.

Each year in Ontario we hear of increases in syphilis among guys into guys. Good thing there is something we can all do about it!

If you pick up guys on apps and hook up sites or in bathhouses. If you’re using party drugs and having condomless oral and anal sex. Get tested at least every 3 months. If you have a painless sore near your asshole, cock, or vagina/front hole, get tested as soon as possible.

Poz guys on treatment and HIV neg guys on PrEP should test for syphilis as part of their routine care with their doc.

Increasing testing and treatment of syphilis will bring the number of infections in our communities down.

Untreated syphilis can have serious health consequences and increases your chance of acquiring HIV or passing it on. For more info on HIV and sex- check out our video here.
